Pityopsis graminifolia var. latifolia (Fern.) Semple & Bowers [=P. latifolia (Fern.) Bridges & Orzell] was wrongly included in the Alabama flora and misapplied to various populations of P. graminifolia. Pityopsis latifolia is endemic to the southern peninsula of Florida thus not part of the Alabama flora. Another taxon, P. graminifolia var. tenuifolia [=P. tenuifolia (Torrey) Nesom], was included as the Alabama flora but was misapplied to the taxon currently recognized as Pityopsis microcephala (Small) Small. Pitypopsis tenuifolia occurs to the West in SW Mississippi, Louisiana, east Texas, Arkansas and SW Oklahoma. Pityopsis tenuifolia at this time does not seem to be an element of the Alabama flora (Nesom 2019).--B. Keener
