Narrowleaf Barbara's Buttons is a native herbaceous perennial in the Aster family (Asteraceae). It can be found in the southern-most counties of Alabama. Narrowleaf Barbara's Buttons grows in pitcher plant bogs, wet savannahs, low pine woods, and in roadside ditches. It is a perennial with a tap root. Plants have a basal rosette of spreading, petiolate leaves. The basal leaves are oblanceolate in outline with entire margins. The cauline (stem) leaves are sessile, linear in outline, and ascending. Flowers are produced in solitary, terminal heads. The heads contain only disc flowers. The flowers are lavender to white in color. The fruit is an achene.--A. Diamond
