Roundleaf Thoroughwort is a native herbaceous perennial in the Sunflower family (Asteraceae). It is native to all of Alabama. Roundleaf Thoroughwort grows in bogs, in wet roadside ditches, along the margins of ponds, and in low woods. It is a perennial from a short rhizome. Stems are erect, green or tan in color, pubescent, and branched near the top. The stems are 2-3 feet in height. Leaves are opposite, sessile, ovate to deltate in outline, pubescent, gland dotted, with crenate or serrate margins. The leaves have 3 prominent veins from the base. Flowers are produced in heads. The heads are arranged in corymbs. Each head has 8-10 pubescent phyllaries and 5 white disc flowers. The fruit is an achene. Plants can be highly variable due to hybridization with other Eupatorium species. Some of these hybrids have been named. Roundleaf Thoroughwort is occasionally available as plants or seed. It prefers a site with moist soil and full sun.--A. Diamond
