Rough Boneset is a native herbaceous perennial in the Sunflower family (Asteraceae). It can be found primarily in the southern half of the state. Rough Boneset occurs in low pine woods, in bogs, around the margins of ponds, in seeps, and in wet roadside ditches. It is a perennial from a short rhizome. Stems are 3-4 feet in height, reddish or brown in color, branched above the middle, and densely pubescent. Lower leaves are opposite; upper leaves and main branches of the inflorescence are often alternate. Lower leaves are sessile or very short petiolate, elliptic to lance-ovate in outline, pubescent and gland dotted, with serrate margins. The upper leaves smaller, lanceolate in outline, with entire margins. The flowers are produced in heads. The heads are arranged in corymbs. Each head contains 5 white disc flowers. The fruit is an achene.—A. Diamond
