For many years this species was confused with Coreopsis verticillata L., a species of the Atlantic Coastal Plain. Coreopsis pulchra has brownish disc flowers while C. verticillata produces greenish-yellow ones. All references of C. verticillata in Alabama so far have turned out to be C. pulchra thus warranting the exclusion of C. verticillata from the Alabama Plant Atlas. -BK
