Michaux's Milkweed is a native perennial in the Dogbane family (Apocynaceae). It can be found in the lower third of Alabama. Michaux's Milkweed grows in mesic to moist pine savannahs, mixed pine-oak woods, and on marl outcrops. It is a perennial from a cluster of cord-like roots. There is 1-2 reclining to upright stems from each root stock. The stems are 6-12 inches in length. Leaves are opposite to sub-opposite, linear, and glabrous or pubescent on the veins on the underside of the leaf. Flowers are produced in solitary terminal umbels. Flowers are greenish white tinged with rose purple. The fruit is an erect follicle.--A. Diamond
