First discovered in Alabama by Glen Dale Bryant, confirmed by Dwayne Estes, then vouchered by Kevin England.
Clematis beadlei is a close relative of Clematis viorna L., a taxonomic "catch-all" species not currently known from Alabama. Because of earlier authors treating various species of Clematis (including C. beadlei) as synonyms of C. viorna, C. beadlei may be more common in Alabama than the map may indicate. --B. Keener
