Annual Blue-Eyed Grass is a native annual in the Iris family (Iridaceae). It can be found primarily in the southern half of Alabama. Annual Blue-Eyed Grass occurs in lawns, on roadsides, in fields and pastures, and in other open, often disturbed sites. It is an annual with a fibrous root system. Stems are spreading to ascending and branched 2-3 times. The stems are green in color and glabrous. The leaves are linear in outline, glabrous, with entire margins. The flowers are terminal on a scape between 2 spathes. The spathes are green, wider than the scape, with narrow hyaline margins. Flowers are campanulate basally with 6 flaring tepals. The tepals are variable in color from white to lavender or yellow. The tepals have a maroon, purple, or brownish base. The exterior of the campanulate portion of the flower is stipitate glandular. The fruit is a capsule.--A. Diamond
