Fascicled Gerardia is a native herbaceous annual in the Broomrape family (Orobanchaceae). It can be found throughout most of Alabama, but is most abundant in the southern half of the state. Fascicled Gerardia grows in pine woods, in pastures, in clear cuts, in young pine plantations, along powerline right-of-ways, and on roadsides. It is an annual with a tap root. Fascicled Gerardia is hemiparasitic. Seedlings must establish a connection to the roots of grass plants for continued growth. Stems are erect, 2-4 feet in height, green in color, and much branched above the middle. The branches are upright, but become divergent with age. The stems are pubescent and rough to the touch. Leaves are linear, entire, often revolute, and occur in fascicles. The leaves are pubescent with short hairs. Flowers occur in terminal racemes. The calyx is glabrous and cup shaped with the lobes shorter than the tube. The corolla is pubescent and 5 lobed with the lobes shorter than the tube. The lobes are spreading. The corolla is pink to rose-purple in color. The throat of the corolla has purple spots and yellow or white lines. The base of the upper two corolla lobes is pubescent with long hairs. The fruit is a capsule. Fascicled Gerardia is one of our most common and abundant species of Agalinis. It can be very abundant in open, sunny areas.--A. Diamond
