Tiny Mousetail is a native herbaceous annual in the Buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). It occurs primarily in the northern half of the state. Tiny Mousetail grows in wet, fallow fields, in roadside ditches, and along streams and lakes. It is an annual with a fibrous root system. Plants are from 1-4 inches in height. Leaves are basal, linear to oblanceolate in outline, and entire. The leaves are glabrous and a uniform green on both surfaces. Flowers are solitary on scapes that are longer than the leaves. Flowers have 5 pinkish or yellowish green sepals and no petals. There are 5-25 stamens and an elongated axis of 10-400 simple pistils. The fruit is a head of achenes.--A. Diamond
