Bog Marsh Pink is a native perennial in the Gentian family (Gentianaceae). It is found across southern and northeastern Alabama. It occurs in wet savannahs, bogs, seeps, and wet roadside ditches. It is a perennial with a small rhizome. The stems ae wiry, glabrous, and branched above. The stems are slightly angled, green in color, and often falling over and mixing with other vegetation. The leaves are opposite, linear, and glabrous. Flowers are produced in a diffuse panicle. The branches of the panicle are alternate. There are 5 linear, green calyx lobes, and 5 pink or rarely white corolla lobes. At the center of the flower there is a yellow “star” outlined in deep pink or red. The fruit is a capsule.--A. Diamond
