Coastal Plain St. John's Wort is a native evergreen woody shrub in the St Johns Wort family (Hypericaceae). It is native to the southern third of Alabama. The plant often forms rounded mounds. The bark is reddish-brown in color and smooth. It exfoliates in small strips or plates. Leaves are opposite, linear, entire, glabrous, with revolute margins. The leaves have fascicles of smaller leaves in their axils, and punctate dots on the upper surface. The stem internode is 2-winged. Flowers are produced in 3-5 flowered cymes. Each flower has 5 linear sepals and 5 yellow petals. The fruit is a cylindrical capsule.--A. Diamond
