This species "plants" the mature fruits by recurving and extending the pedicel in to the substrate below.
Torrey provided a replacement name, Callitriche nuttallii Torrey, but this was unnecessary and superfluous as Callitriche pedunculosa Nutt. was legitimately published and not a later homonym as Torrey suggested.
